The department is also the home of the
Santa Cruz Center for International Economics

Economics is the study of a vast range of human behavior and its social implications, ranging from how individuals make personal financial and consumption decisions to how production and trade patterns change over time. Economic theory has contributed to advances in psychology, legal theory, anthropology, sociology, and history. Economists are also tackling critical global issues, from managing increasing income inequality to responding to environmental degradation.

The UC Santa Cruz economics programs are designed to provide a liberal arts education. Graduates choose many different careers in teaching, law, administration, business, government, or research. A large number of our students undertake graduate studies in these related fields.

The Department houses two research centers: the Santa Cruz Center for International Economics (SCCIE) and the Learning and Experimental Economics Projects of Santa Cruz (LEEPS).
